INTERNATIONAL SECURITY MANAGEMENT COURSE (ISMC 5)

1.               For more stable security and thriving economic prosperity in the region and Africa by extension, there is the need to develop initiatives and solid strategies to protect democratic processes, uphold human rights, promote good governance, and prevent political instability, and unconstitutional regime change. Furthermore, efforts bordering on environmental security, human security, cyber security, economic security, transnational crimes and issues in the maritime domain need to be revisited from more informed perspectives in light of extant threat realities.

Objectives

?                To equip participants and ground them with the principles, theories, and practices of international security and conflict management related to ECOWAS and the West Africa region.

?                To introduce the history, evolution and challenges of the ECOWAS since its establishment.

?                To enhance participants' skills in analysing and assessing security risks and developing effective mitigation strategies in their various states.

?                To equip participants with functional knowledge of, and skills in, border security and opportunities for collaboration among members’ states.

?                Assess the efforts of multilateral cooperation in combatting the surge of terrorism and the existing ECOWAS strategy

?                Assess the efforts of Member States in responding to coups and counter-coups.

?                To expose participants to ECOWAS security infrastructure and its approach to maintaining stability.
